Q: Are the White Deer for real?A: Yes indeed they are. I can't vouch for that secret cult though! Click the running deer icon in the upper right corner and you can read all about the white deer. --------------Q: Why the Native American subject matter? Are you Native American yourself?A: Not Native American but I'm full blooded American all the way - just like Tununda said. My ancestors came from Sicily, Italy and also somewhere along the changing borders of Lithuania, Poland, and Russia - all as immigrants in the 1910s. I chose the Iroquois subject matter because I lived right there in the heart of their old empire and have always been intrigued by this warrior nation. --------------Q: Is the Crown of Serpents for real?A: As a sworn member of the White Deer Society I cannot divulge that information. I can tell you that Atotarho or as some call him Tadodaho, the evil Onondaga chieftain, according to ancient Iroquois legend, was most definitely for real. And he was said to have snakes for hair because his mind was so full of heinous thoughts.--------------Q: Tell us about the historical incident used as the backdrop for the novel – the capture and torture death of American Lt. Thomas Boyd at the hands of British Col. John Butler and Chief Joseph Brant, all three being Freemasons.A: Boyd sought and received protection as a prisoner under the Masonic code but was then possibly betrayed by another Mason. His resulting death at the hands of the Iroquois was one of the most heinous acts of torture and murder recorded during the Revolutionary War. But upon capture on the battlefield and being stripped of all possessions he lost his campaign journal. That’s where my novel picks up in the present day - the discovery of that journal.--------------Q: Why have the main character Jake Tununda as a military historian/battlefield detective?A: Because all of the FBI and CIA agents were already taken. Same with the alcoholic rogue cops, detectives, private eyes, forensic investigators and Ivy league professors not to mention vampires. Seriously though, our collective human history is a history of military conflict and conquer. Of death and destruction. It's even how this nation was formed. There are so many hidden secrets and so many personal eyewitness stories of battles that still remain buried in history that I knew Jake Tununda would have an endless source of digging into the past. An added dimension for Jake was to have him be part Seneca Indian too, because of the rich tradition, history, and strong warrior pride. --------------Q: How did you become involved in Freemasonry?A: I read Dan Brown's DaVinci Code where he mentioned Freemasons and I became interested. I researched the fraternity on my own and found out its belief system matched mine - that it promoted gaining knowledge as true enlightenment, that a man should be judged by his character and actions not rhetoric. That men are bonded by a deeper loyalty that outlasts government systems. Plus we have these really cool secret handshakes and passwords!--------------Q: Will there be a sequel to Crown of Serpents?A: Yes there will be. The readers are demanding it. It will feature the duo of Jake and Rae again but this time down here in Atlanta where I'm now living. Jake will be pulled into another quest mystery involving Civil War history and the Battle of Atlanta as well as the removal of the Cherokee Indians and their lost and hidden caches of gold up in the north Georgia mountains. I will also be playing off of today's headline news too with politics and crime. Hell, they go hand in hand!--------------
